Charlotte, NC honors Carolina Crown Co-Founder With Forty Over 40 honor

This isn’t about the boldfaced names, or high-profile leaders dominating headlines. The “Forty Over 40” awards shine a spotlight ont he remarkable individuals quietly making profound contributions to the Charlotte, NC community. Beyond age lies a welath of wisdom and these awards, given annually by The Charlotte Ledger, magnify the power of experience.

The individuals who have navigated the lessons of their 20s and 30s, using that knowledge to fuel meaningful change in their 40s, 50s, 60s and beyond, include Carolina Crown’s Doug Madar.

From business to education, nonprofits to healthcare, and every sector shaping Charlotte, these seasoned leaders are raising the bar.

This year, there was an impressive class of 135 nominees filled with awe-inspiraing and thought-provoking stories of innovators and problem-solvers. The newspaper’s panel of independent judges had a lot of tough decision to make.

Doug Madar, from the Carolina Crown Drum & Bugle Corps, co-founded the organization in the late 1980s. Under his leadership, the drum corps evolved into a nationally-ranked powerhouse, consistently placing in the top 10 - and often the top 5 - in World Class competition. The awards celebrate local unsung heroes aged 40+ who are doing great things in our community.
